If you have children who would like to be in the pageant, please sign up by going to bit.ly/SMEC-ChristmasPageant2022

Youth Sunday: Blessing of the Backpacks and Sunday School/Middle School Open House

Blessing of the Backpacks: All students are encouraged to bring their school backpacks this Sunday! Father Rodney will bless backpacks at each of the services.

Sunday School Open House: Don’t forget to stop by the atriums (in the modular building) after the 9:00 service. All are welcome to stop by, meet the teachers, and either tour the space for the first time, or reacquaint yourselves with the area and the program. Sunday School registration forms will be available, or you can go here: https://tinyurl.com/SMEC-CGS-REG to register online.

Middle School Open House: Stop by Father Rodney’s office (future conference room!) after the 9:00 service to meet the teachers, and learn about our dedicated program for the middle school age youth, called Weaving God’s Promises.

Parish Hall Labyrinth Prototype

Have you noticed the green tape on our parish hall floors? If you haven’t, take a look during coffee hour!

Eleven Saint Matthew’s youth gathered a few weeks ago to support Nathaniel Mathew in creating this prototype of his Eagle Scout project, a prayer labyrinth. Nathaniel is planning on creating a larger, eco-conscious version of the labyrinth on our church campus later this summer. The final version will be grass-hewn, with a stone path leading to its threshold, and with a small trailhead to direct visitors.

We invite you to test drive the labyrinth in our parish hall throughout July and August anytime you like. Call the church office if you would like to walk it as an individual or a family during non-worship hours.

Nathaniel would appreciate any feedback on the pattern he is proposing. While you’re there, take a look at the art pieces we created as a youth group this year.

If you’d like to donate funds to Nathaniel’s project, please contribute here.

2021 Vacation Bible School and Middle School Summer Service Camp Wrap-Up

Thank you to all who worked so hard to make St. Matthew’s 2021 Vacation Bible School a success!

Forty children rode the Rocky Railways exploring Jesus’ power and love. The children were joined by 9 teen volunteers and 12 Middle School Summer Service campers who helped the adult volunteers with the program.

Many thanks to our Middle School Summer Service Camp and teen volunteers! This week, they were invaluable in assisting the VBS leaders in the morning. Their afternoons were filled with fellowship and skills development as they completed service projects around the church, each day rooted in scripture that aligned with their work.

Youth Group Gathering – June 21, 2021

Join us on Monday, June 21st at 5:00 PM for our final Youth Group gathering of the program year!

We’ll close the year learning about labyrinths, a contemplative prayer tool that Christians and other groups have been utilizing for centuries. Together we’ll build a labyrinth in our parish hall, have an opportunity to walk through its circuits, and consider how we might invite our parish family to use the tool themselves.

Snacks and refreshments will be available. The gathering will be held indoors, and masks will be required for participants who have not yet been vaccinated

Youth who are rising 6th graders through grade 12 are welcome.

May God bless you,
